Early Diving Days
The summers of my childhood were spent in the beautiful, historic town of Stonington, Connecticut, on the Long Island Sound. This is where I learned to sail, swim, and fell in love with the ocean, but I was not a natural when it came to scuba diving. I had to fight claustrophobia to learn to dive, but was determined to learn so that I could accompany Peter on some of his global diving expeditions with ABC Sportsman and National Geographic. I am grateful that I have had so many chances to enjoy the dueling paradox of ocean diving—its thrilling rush of discovery and the soothing calm of being weightless in a fascinating alien world— for more than 40 years now.
I was thrilled and honored to be inducted into the Women Divers Hall Of Fame (WDHOF) in 2015 and am very proud to be part of this extraordinary group of diving scientists, US armed services members, photographers, film makers, public policy experts, dive masters and entrepreneurs. I was also deeply honored to receive the 2016 Diver of the Year Award for Enivronmentalism from Beneath The Sea a leading support organization for divers, dive operators, film makers, photographers and all related fields.
