Blue Frontier - The Power of Grassroots Activism

Blue Frontier is a national leader in solution-oriented citizen engagement needed to protect our ocean, coasts and the communities, both human and wild that depend on them.

With links to 1,400 ocean organizations large and small, Blue Frontier is focused on grassroots or “seaweed” level activism, spanning coastal states and the heartland. No other marine conservation organization has a “deeper” reach into the ‘blue’ grassroots community, or broader array of partnerships among national stakeholders.

Founded in 2003 by award-winning author and journalist David Helvarg, and with support from public figures such as Dr. Sylvia Earle, Robert Kennedy Jr., Ralph Nader, Philippe Cousteau, and former U.S. Rep. Sam Farr (D CA.). Blue Frontier has offices in Richmond California.

I am a strong believer in the power of grassroots activism to make change and raise awareness of critical issues, particularly at the local level, and I have been a board member of Blue Frontier for the past decade. Bravo to these Seaweed Rebels.
